George and Jane spent many years serving in the Manti temple above the cemetery on the hill. George was born in England and Jane was born in Scotland. Both left their native lands after being converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Both sailed across the ocean as youths and struggled to survive while crossing America by land to their "Zion" in Utah. Both sacrificed so much to serve their Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, and it's only fitting that the house of the Lord stands guard over their graves.
These are the headstones of George and Jane Coleman, the small plaque attached to the stones is explained in the information below from the Sons of Utah Pioneer website:
“Faith in Every Footstep” Grave Markers
In 1997, a Church committee created a marker to be attached to the graves of Pioneers who arrived in the valley prior to the coming of the railroad. These were sold to anyone who wanted to attach one to the grave of his or her ancestor, in commemoration of the sesquicentennial of the arrival of the Pioneers in 1847.
The markers are 2 ½ inches by 3 ½ inches of very durable metal. Those who attached them in 1997 say they have not deteriorated from weather.
